🎯 Who it is for: those who have memorized the Quran or recite it proficiently, hold an ijazah in the narration of Hafs, and want to progress smoothly towards the “Ten Readings”.

⏱ Duration: a flexible, tailored path depending on the student’s pace and mastery of “Qalun’s variants”; the start of the khatmah is set after passing the “sabr and recitation assessment test”.

📖 About the course: The narration of “Qalun from Nafi‘ al-Madani” is one of the gentlest and most beautiful Quranic narrations, known for its lightness, smoothness and flow,

yet it demands great precision from the student in handling the permitted variants within one verse (such as short and medium madd munfaṣil combined with sukūn or ṣilah of the plural mīm)

and the fine rules of the hamzahs. At Al-Azhar Message Academy we give you a golden opportunity to perfect this authentic narration and recite a complete khatmah to a select group of senior Azhari sheikhs and female reciters specialised in the science of the Readings and holding high chains. In this course you train to master Qalun’s principles with great precision and to apply the taḥrīrāt, while treating any hidden laḥn,

so that your journey is crowned with a “certified ijazah with a connected sanad to the Prophet ﷺ”, giving you the honour and qualification to teach this blessed narration anywhere in the world.

💡 Course goals (what will the ijazah holder achieve in this program?):

  1. A high Madinan sanad: joining a chain of trustworthy narrators back to Imam ‘Isa ibn Mina (Qalun), from Imam Nafi‘ al-Madani, from the noble Companions, to the Prophet ﷺ.

  2. Mastering the distinctive principles: precise application of Qalun’s specific rules (such as ṣilah of the plural mīm, short and medium madd munfaṣil, the rules of two hamzahs in one word and across two words, and the shortened vowel of the pronoun hā’).

  3. Mastering the variants (taḥrīrāt): intensive training in combining Qalun’s permitted variants within one verse without confusion or mixing (such as the variants of madd munfaṣil meeting the plural mīm).

  4. Cleansing the recitation of hidden laḥn: careful treatment of articulation points and regulating the lengths of madd to fully match the certified narration, free of any influence from Hafs or other narrations.

  5. Qualification to teach: obtaining an academic certificate that authorises the student to teach the Quran in the narration of Qalun and to pass the sanad on to others.

📚 Program plan and ijazah tracks:

  • Preparatory stage (explaining Qalun’s principles): (for those studying the narration for the first time)

    • A simplified theoretical study of the principles of Qalun before the recitation, to avoid stumbling (ṣilah, madd, iẓhār and idghām, and the types of hamzah).

    • Studying the “farsh” (the specific words that are unique to Qalun or in which he differs from others, surah by surah).

  • Stage one: sabr and assessment test

    • An assessment session with a sheikh to test the level of memorization and basic recitation quality and determine readiness to start the ijazah khatmah.

  • Stage two: the guided khatmah (by heart or by reading)

    • Disciplined recitation of the complete khatmah, training the student to read with Qalun’s different variants and stopping them at every rule that needs taḥrīr, to ensure quality performance and understanding.

  • Stage three: ijazah and crowning

    • Completing the Quran and reciting al-Fatihah and the beginning of surah al-Baqarah (following the sunnah of “the one who arrives and sets off again”).

    • Receiving the certified and stamped “ijazah certificate with a connected sanad” from Al-Azhar Message Academy.

        • The ijazah fee is set when you contact the academy.
