Ijazah in the narration of Warsh from Nafi‘ (via al-Azraq, with a connected sanad)
🚀 Master the narration of Warsh with an Azhari sanad – book your sabr session with our sheikhs now! “The narration of Warsh via al-Azraq needs specialist sheikhs of the Readings who know the fine taḥrīrāt, not just ordinary teachers! At Al-Azhar Message we place you in the hands of sheikhs and female reciters who hold certified chains in the Ten Readings to ensure accurate transmission, with a fully female environment for sisters.”
🎯 Who it is for: those who have memorized the Quran or recite it proficiently (whether from the Maghreb wanting to perfect their native narration with an Azhari sanad, or holders of a Hafs ijazah wishing to study a new narration). ⏱ Duration: a flexible, tailored path depending on the student’s grasp of the narration’s principles and how fast they complete the khatmah; their track is set after passing the “sabr and recitation assessment test”.
📖 About the course: The narration of “Warsh from Nafi‘ al-Madani” (via Abu Ya‘qub al-Azraq) is one of the most famous and beautiful mass-transmitted Quranic narrations, with precise phonetic principles that must be received orally from master sheikhs to avoid mixing. At Al-Azhar Message Academy we offer you an exceptional opportunity to perfect this authentic narration and recite a complete khatmah to senior Azhari sheikhs and female reciters specialised in the “Ten Readings” and holding high chains. In this course you train to master Warsh’s distinctive principles (such as transferring the hamzah’s vowel, light rā’ and heavy lām, and the rules of badal and words ending in yā’). We provide a disciplined scholarly environment to refine your recitation and qualify you, at the end of the program, for a “certified ijazah with a connected sanad to the Prophet ﷺ”, giving you the qualification and honour to teach this narration anywhere in the world.
💡 Course goals (what will the ijazah holder achieve in this program?):
The honour of the luminous sanad: joining a chain of trustworthy narrators back to Imam Warsh, from Imam Nafi‘ al-Madani, from the noble Companions, to the Prophet ﷺ.
Mastering the narration’s principles (theory and practice): precise application of Warsh’s specific rules, avoiding confusion with Hafs or other narrations.
Mastering taḥrīrāt and permitted variants: intensive training in how to combine and stop with the permitted reading variants (such as the variants of madd al-badal with words ending in yā’, and madd al-līn before a hamzah).
Cleansing the recitation of hidden laḥn: careful treatment of articulation points and regulating the long madd (full prolongation of 6 counts) that characterises Imam Warsh.
Qualification to teach (iqra’): obtaining a certificate that grants the student permission to teach this narration and to pass the sanad on to others.
📚 Program plan and ijazah tracks:
Preparatory stage (explaining the principles): (for those reading Warsh for the first time)
A simplified theoretical study of the principles of Warsh before practice (such as the plural mīm, the pronoun hā’, two hamzahs in one word and across two words, naql, and badal).
Studying the “farsh” (the words in which Warsh differs from Hafs).
Stage one: sabr and assessment test
A test of the student’s memorization and mastery of articulation points to determine their readiness to start the khatmah.
Stage two: the guided khatmah (by heart or by reading)
Disciplined recitation of the complete khatmah, with the sheikh pausing at every rule to ensure accurate application (such as imālah and taqlīl of the hā’s, and the heavy lām with fatḥah after ṣād, ṭā’ or ẓā’).
Stage three: ijazah and crowning
Completing the Quran and reciting al-Fatihah and the beginning of al-Baqarah (following the sunnah of “the one who arrives and sets off again”).
